Vallejo, CA

Vallejo, California is the first permanent home of California's state government and is the 142-year home of the first and most famous naval ship building and repair facility on the west coast. A city whose rich history is intertwined deeply to both the state in which it was born and to the country it served through two world wars.

The geography of the area has also played an important role in Vallejo's development and future. Located at the northern tip of San Pablo Bay, Vallejo's waterfront location has made it an important harbor not only for the military but also for commercial shipping, industry, oil companies and ferry transportation

Although ferry and passenger train service died down when America's love affair with the automobile began, these alternate forms of transportation are still used today. The City of Vallejo's four high-speed catamaran ferries carry thousands of passengers a week to and from San Francisco for work and play.

Vallejo is the most diverse city of any size in the United States. Vallejo is home to the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom theme park, the now-defunct Mare Island Naval Shipyard, and the regional office for Region 5 of the United States Forest Service.

Home to the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi, Mare Island Golf Club has one of the best views for golf in the Bay Area, allowing you to see deep into the distant corners of the North Bay.

Taste the amazing wine of Vino Godfather Winery, located on Walnut Ave inside one of the Historic Admiral Mansion’s, giving you a first hand experience into the charm and sheer brilliance these buildings still possess to this day. They have live music every Saturday with plenty of wine to spare!

Drink craft beer along the water, with nine historic Coal Sheds sitting prominently on the waterfront of Mare Island. Converted from their original role of providing coal for the steamships of the Naval Base, the Coal Sheds now house artists, speaker manufacturers, Renaissance faire producers, welders and of course the Mare Island Brewing, Co which is currently in their final phases of construction.

Vallejo enjoys a mild, mediterranean climate year-round with gentle breezes off our waterfront. The average temperature ranges from a low of 48°F to a high of 70°F. The climate mirrors that of San Francisco, but with temperatures typically ten degrees warmer. Average annual rainfall is 18 inches, falling primarily between October through April. Dress is casual year-round and layered clothing is recommended.
